As you can see, I read 13 books this month, which is quite a lot, and I had a ton of really good 4 or 5 star books in there so overall it was a big YAY! My average rating was 3.9, which is high!!A good reading month for sure.

Blogging

If it was a good reading month, it wasn’t the best blogging month. I only published 9 posts, compared to around 20 in all my previous months. I’m trying to post around 3-4 times a week now though (which is significantly less than when I used to post 6-7 times a week this time last year) so it’s not that much worse than what I was aiming for. I’ve been slow at commenting back, blog hopping, etc, but I’ll get to that later, and I still did put out some posts I really loved!

Life

Well, the reason I was less active here was because I was trying my hardest to be more active in my personal life since this was my last full month of high school! In fact, as this post goes live, I’ve graduated!!!! Here are some of the things I did this past month with my personal life.

  • I went to Yallwest! Well, still bookish, and you can see above I made a post about it.
  • I took 5 AP exams. It was rough, but now I’m…done with college board and standardized tests?? That’s so crazy (and so amazing!)
  • I went to my senior prom! Wearing a floor length princess gown, doing my makeup, taking pictures with flowers, dancing all night long…I definitely felt a bit like a princess and it was truly magical ❤
  • I’ve been working hard on final projects! I filmed a really fun video with my friends (and it took so long because we ruined so many takes laughing), and did a couple presentations, my last presentations of hs ever!
  • We had senior crazy week at school! From beach day carrying around pool floating to school, to powder day where we all threw colored powder at each other, it was so much fun! And of course, the looks of confusion on the faces of the underclassmen wondering what we were doing was priceless!
  • We got the yearbooks! I was in yearbook this past year, and going from the hundreds of hours pouring over a computer screen to actually seeing and holding my pages in print was absolutely incredible!

That was a lot and probably nobody cares haha but this blog is a place were I can write about myself for myself and I definitely want to remember this past month, so I’m jotting it down here so I can remember all the fun times ❤

9. Sorcery of Thorns: 5 stars // This book was INCREDIBLE and I am IN LOVE hello magical libraries isn’t that the best premise ever??
10. Brightly Burning: 2 stars // Basically just a meh…total instalove and a really weird weak premise.
11. Little White Lies: 4 stars // This was a lot more intense and twisty turny than I’d anticipated and it was great!
12. Tarot: 1.5 stars // All the characters and world building and basically everything here was just so shallow I didn’t even care.

Blog Posts

This month, I cut WAY back on my blog posts. About a year ago, according to my stats, I was posting every single day (how????). Then I cut back to around 5-6 days a week. This month I really focused more on quality over quantity and I’m now posting 3 times a week, and I’m much happier with my content and also much less stressed??? Here are a few of my favorite posts.

I read a lot of wonderful blog posts from other people too! Here are some of my favorites:

Life Happenings

It’s been another busy month in my life! Here’s what happened to me!

  • I committed to a college! That’s right–this girl is going to college! I guess I’m all grown up nowww.
  • We finished our school yearbook! You probably don’t know that I’m on the yearbook staff, and we’ve been working so hard, during class, lunch, after school, and weekends to get the book done!
  • I’ve been…dying in school lmao. I’ve been kinda mia on replying to comments/blog hopping lately because I’m actually drowning in schoolwork? I had five finals this past week, and for the next two weeks I’m taking five AP exams, so if I’m not here you’ll know that I’m dying.
  • I CROSSED 100 BLOG FOLLOWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s sooo crazy to me that fifteen months after I created Hammock of Books, I now have 1000 people following me???? Listening to my weird rambles??? My crazy schenegins??? I am building my own army????? THANK YOU ALL ILY!!!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY THIS IS AMAINZG LOVEEEE ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Monthly Wrap Up || March 2019

Hey loves! Somehow, someday, March has already ended! I really have no idea how this happened, and how we’re already 1/4 of the way through the year???!!!! Anyways, let’s discuss what happened to me this month!

Books Read

1. Descendant of the Crane: 4.5 stars | I adored this ownvoices Asian fantasy and I can’t wait for everyone else to read and love it!
2. Stay Sweet: 3 stars | I had a few problems with the petty behavior in this one, but it really was a sweet read!
3. My Almost Flawless Tokyo Dream Life: 1.5 stars | I mean…this really read a lot more like a Wikipedia article on Japan than an actual novel.
4. A Prom To Remember: 2.5 stars | This was a really cool premise, but there were far too many characters and I really couldn’t keep anything straight.

36430989323332963849175735715525

5. Girls of Paper and Fire: 4 stars | This book was so dark and intriguing, hard to read but ultimately amazing.
6. The Way You Make Me Feel: 1.5 stars | Cute concept, but I really really really hated the main character.
7. Empress of All Seasons: 4 stars | This was such a cool concept, and I had a few issues with pacing and romance, but overall really enjoyed!
8. Mirage: 4 stars | This was such a cool concept and I loved how it sort of combined science fiction and fantasy!

34433755357043973756931832768520

9. Beloved: 3 stars | Read this for school and I can’t say I enjoyed it…yeah…it was really weird.
10. Legendary: 4.5 stars | I loved getting back into the world of Caraval and was blown away by all the crazy twists and turns!

I read ten books this month, which is pretty good, and I’m still ahead on my Goodreads reading challenge so yay! My average rating was 3.25, which is a bit lower than usual, and I definitely had some books I really didn’t like, but there were also some that I absolutely loved!

#YARC19 Update

I signed up for the Year of the Asian Reading Challenge, but, like all things, failed to stay engaged in it and really haven’t mentioned it since. Since we are a quarter of the way through the year, here’s checking in on all the books I’ve read for the challenge:

  1. (January) Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han (Korean) | This was a reread, and of course I really loved it ❤
  2. (February) The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi (Indian) | I really enjoyed this, Six of Crows vibes and all! Also, the biracial representation touched my heart!
  3. (March) Descendant of the Crane by Joan He (Chinese) | Such an incredible Asian inspired fantasy!
  4. (March) Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan (Malaysian) | This was such a powerful story and I really enjoyed it! Also, on top of the Asian rep there is great lgbtq+ rep!
  5. (March) The Way You Make Me Feel by Maurene Goo (Chinese) | Hated the character but loved the Asian rep!
  6. (March) Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean (Japanese) | I loved the lush Asian fantasy setting, with monsters and humans and everything in between! Also, super glad to support this author because she’s biracial like me!

March was an excellent month for this challenge, since I read four YARC books! I’ve earned my first badge, the Philippine Tarsier (1-10 books), and have only five more books to go towards my goal!

Life Happenings

This has really been an insane month for me! I didn’t post as often as I’d planned to this month since my life has been so crazy, and there was seriously so much happening. Here are a few!

  • I finished the second draft of my WIP! Although I’ve written a few first drafts before, this is the first second draft I’ve ever written! I felt this huge sense of accomplishment upon finishing it, and now I’m taking a short writing break and diving back into it soon I hope!
  • After literally more than a year of book blogging, I finally created a Twitter! I’m @hammockofbooks if you want to check me out 🙂
  • College decisions came out this month! I was rejected from my top choice unfortunately, but I was accepted to many other good schools. This is something that’s been stressing me out literally since August when I started working on my applications, so it’s a HUGE RELIEF to finally be done.

Life Happenings

  • Happy belated pi day everyone! I made a delicious pi pie on March 14th and it made my nerdy heart so happy!
  • I’m STUNNED by the new Aladdin trailer! I still think the genie and Jafar are horribly cast and look terrible, but oh my gosh the actress playing Jasmine can really sing! That clip of Whole New World gave me absolute chills!

How was your week? Were you a nerd who celebrated pi day too? I’d love to chat in the comments below ❤

Weekly Wrap Up || March 8th 2019

Hey loves! It’s Saturday, so that means it’s time for another Weekly Wrap Up!

Books Read

  • Stay Sweet: 3.5 stars | I definitely had a few issues with this book and its characters, but it was so sweet omg so much ice cream I’m in love.
  • My Almost Flawless Tokyo Dream Life: 1.5 stars | I mean…this really doesn’t feel like a novel as much as it feels like a travel guide or wikipedia article…
  • A Prom To Remember: 2.5 stars | This was such a cute premise (just look at that cover!) but with seven POVs in 300 pages, I think it was trying to do too much.
