This week’s prompt is New To Me Authors I Read In 2018. 2018 was the year I started blogging (!!!!), and I was really introduced to a lot of popular hyped authors I’d never heard of, as well as just reading fabulous books by new authors, so I just had to share my list!!

2018 Bookish New Years Resolutions/Goals || New Year, New Blogging Me!

New Years Resolutions. Everyone makes them, and then promptly breaks them on January 3rd or something. Anyway, I’ve decided to jump on the bandwagon and in addition to making the generic oh, I’ll work out more and procrastinate less and all that jazz, make some for this lovely blog!

In addition, since it’s almost my One Year Blogversery (!!!!!), these will be the goals for my second year of blogging!! Perks of starting a blog in the first month of the year is how nicely it all lines up I guess haha!

1. Actually make blog graphics | I’m one of the few bloggers I know who has done so little in terms of branding myself haha. Recently though, I did make myself a Blogmas header, and I loved being able to put it on every post! I made it with Photoshop, which I have access to through my school, but I’m going to lose access to after June, so the time is definitely now to be making headers, before it’s too late!!

2. Go blog hopping more often | I went blog hopping all the time when I first started my blog, but now I can’t remember the last time I did it! It’s very time consuming, which is probably why I stopped, but it’s genuinely so much fun to discover new blogs and bloggers, and it’s definitely something I should be doing to interact in the community more!

3. Rediscover old bloggers | I definitely used to be a lot more active, and I was friends with quite a few bloggers who I seem to have lost track of lately! I was certainly more busy at the end of last year than the beginning, which is why I couldn’t interact as much, but I’d love to check up on those old bloggers I’ve fallen out of contact with and see their lovely blogs!

4. Read 100 books again! | With another year over, it’s time to reset my Goodreads Reading Challenge! Last year I set my goal to 100 and surpassed it with 117! This year, I’m setting it to 100 again!

5. Focus on quality, not quantity | For a while in the beginning of last year, I was blogging every single day! I was determined to get good stats! Since then, I’ve gradually started blogging less and focusing on better quality posts instead of just churning them out, and I’d like to do that more this year!

Yearly Wrap Up || 2018 Is Over Ahh!

Hello loves! It’s finally 2019!!! This is so insane to me how is time passing so quickly?? I started blogging in 2018 too, so it’s absolutely insane that I’ve stuck around for so long?? Anyways, I’m here to give a quick wrap up on my past year! I’m a little late, but that’s not abnormal for me so here we go!

I’ve already posted a few posts about this past year! I talked specifically about My Favorite Covers of 2018, My Least Favorite Books of 2018, and My Favorite Books of 2018, as well as just the general End Of Year Survey with info about my favorite books and characters and plots and stuff, so if you’re interested in my favorites, be sure to check those out! Now though, I just want to talk generally about the year!

Books

In 2018, I read 117 books! I set my Goodreads goal at 100, so I managed to exceed it by 17 books, which was just amazing! Of these, 13 were rereads, including the seven Harry Potter books, which I adored!

The shortest book I read was Oedipus Rex, at 75 pages, and the longest one was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, at 870. Quite a difference there! The average book length was 390 pages. And I read a total of 45,675 pages, which is just mind boggling to me!

My average book rating was 3.8 stars, which I thought was really good, and I enjoyed most of the books I read, and really only hated a few haha.

Here are all of the 117 books I read!

Blogging

This was my first year blogging, and it was amazing! I made a bunch of friends, wrote my first reviews, tags, discussions, and more! I wrote over 200 posts this year, which is just crazy to me!

Most of my most popular posts (in terms of reads) are Top Ten Tuesdays and discussions! My post popular post is Top Ten Favorite Book Blogs, which is so amazing because it shows so many people got to see so many amazing bloggers! My second most popular post is To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before Casting || Being Biracial, which is also so amazing because of all my posts, this is really the one that came most from my heart and I was most passionate about/involved in, so it was so amazing to see it getting so much love!

I had so much growth in writing blog posts, and I can’t wait to write more this year!

Writing

I don’t talk much about writing on this blog, but it is a book blog and it’s a huge part of my life so I thought I’d touch on it! This year, I wrote a full novel (around 60,000 reads, I think), which was my 4th novel I’ve written, and my first contemporary. I wrote my first novel when I was 13, and it certainly wasn’t with the intent to get published, just to practice writing because I love it! Now though, I’m a bit older and in 2019 I really want to write a second draft of my 2018 book, and maybe, just maybe, work on getting published in the future!!

I can also confidently say that blogging has helped my writing! I’ve written a bunch of reviews where I’ve really analysed authors’ writing and thought about what makes a book good or bad, instead of just how I feel about it without really considering why, and I’m applying this to my own writing, so yay!

Life In General

2018 was probably the hardest and most stressful year of my life. I’m getting ready for college, and this year had to deal with taking SATs and APs for the first time, taking the hardest classes I’ve ever taken (such as the dreaded Calculus…hard for a bookworm like me to do math haha!), and working on college apps!

On the flip side though, it had many wonderful experiences! I took two vacations this year, one to Taiwan and another just recently to go skiing, and both were so much fun! I had so many wonderful experiences with my friends, and I even discovered that one of my closest friends is as much as a bookworm as me and had so many wonderful book talks with her! And of course, I’ve already said this but I’m so happy to have discovered so many amazing people and books through blogging!

Monthly Wrap Up || December 2018 (Blogmas Wrap Up!)

Hello loves! Once again it would seem that I’m late and behind the times, but I wanted to finish off the year with one more Monthly Wrap Up, especially since I did Blogmas last month and want to talk about that!

Books Read

  • Leah On The Offbeat: 2 stars | I tried really hard to love this book since I love Simon (haha puns) so much but I just hated the character of Leah
  • Sweet Black Waves: 1.5 stars | Yet another disappointment filled with instalove and weak character and world development
  • Archenemies: 4 stars | Ahh my most anticipated read this year! It wasn’t as good as the first, but still amazing!
  • The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer: 3.5 stars | I would have loved it when it came out, but now years later it’s good, not great.
  • Winter: 5 stars | A reread of one of my all time favorite books did not disappoint!

Blog Posts

This month I participated in Blogmas and posted every day for the first 25 days of the month, up through Christmas! It was a bit stressful posting every day, but I did have so much fun writing Christmas themed posts and sharing the love! Here are a few of my favorites:

I also loved reading some of your Blogmas posts! Here are a few from around I loved ❤

Life

I won’t reflect on life too much since I’m putting out my 2018 Year In Review tomorrow! I will say that I basically disappeared last week again because I went on vacation though! It doesn’t snow where I live so it was lovely to see snow this winter! I also had such a wonderful Christmas, and I can’t wait for everything this new year holds!

Weekly Wrap Up || December 29, 2018

Hello loves and welcome back to another Weekly Wrap Up!! This is going to be my last Weekly Wrap Up of this year, of 2018, and I’m so shocked!! How has the time flown like this?? Also, I started blogging in January 2018, and I’m in shock over how the time has passed!! But, more on that later 🙂

Books Read

  • The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer: 4 stars | It was time for a bit of a backlist book with this one, having come out seven whole years ago, but I’m finally a bit with the trends! Not perfect by any stretch of imagination, but I did enjoy!
  • Winter: 5 stars | I received Winter as a Christmas gift, and I’m so happy! I now have all four books in The Lunar Chronicles, which is my second favorite series!! And this is my favorite book of the series!! After reading it, I’m questioning again if I could possibly rate books 6 stars?

Blog Posts

After Blogmas concluded (ah! I’m sad too!) on Christmas day, Tuesday, I took a few days off to relax, not check any social sites, and just be with my family (and read Winter!). Here are the few posts I made anyway!

Life Happenings

  • As I said, I took a few days off to relax at Christmas, but I’m coming back now! Before Blogmas, I basically disappeared to deal with my hectic life, and during Blogmas, I blogged every single day! Now I’m still getting myself re-orientated, but I hope to go back to blogging around 4-6 times a week!
  • I had a lovely Christmas! The day was spent reading, baking a delicious yule log, and spending time with family! I’ve enjoyed this week so much–certainly one of the best of the year!
