Reading

1. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (reread) ★★★★★ // Still phenomenal! Loved seeing the golden trio grow closer and Harry’s first taste of Tom Riddle!
2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (reread) ★★★★★ // My second favorite! I love the Marauders, am so happy Harry gets to know Lupin and Sirius, and Harry producing a full Patronus is amazing!
3. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (reread) ★★★★★ //
My favorite HP! The perfect bridge between the lighter first ones and darker later ones, with the perfect blend of fun whimsy with intense conflict. Love seeing Harry develop into an amazing wizard here learning all those spells! Accio book!
4.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (reread) ★★★★☆ // As absolutely infuriating as Umbridge is and as much angst is in the book, I loved seeing Dumbledore’s Army! The ending though, Sirius…. ripped out my heart

5. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (reread) ★★★★★ // Another amazing one! I loved seeing more of Tom Riddle/Voldemort’s backstory and seeing Harry become an amazing wizard post OWLs!
6. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (reread) ★★★★★ // What an absolutely incredible ending.
7. We Set The Dark On Fire ★★★★☆ //
I really enjoyed this diverse fantasy if the main character could be a bit annoying at times.
8. Last Of Her Name ★★★★☆ //
I was meh about it until the mind twisting ending, a cool Anastasia retelling!

9. Before She Ignites ★★☆☆☆  // This was a kind of cool fantasy but also very boring.
10. Gunslinger Girl ★★★☆☆ //
I wanted to love this, but it definitely wasn’t as western as it promised, instead a generic dystopia that bored me at times.
11. The Upside Of Unrequited ★★★☆☆ // Pretty meh, I enjoyed it at times and disliked it at times, cute and fun but nothing amazing like Simon.
12. Lifestyles of Gods and Monsters ★★★★☆  // This was such a cool premise and very disturbing and fun at the same time, although I wish a few things had been addressed better.

13. Spectacle ★☆☆☆☆  // I was just so, so, so bored.
14. The Great Unknowable End ★★★☆☆ //
Kind of cool, definitely different with the weird cult Amish type people, overall a solid good but not great.
15. On The Come Up ★★★★★ // We’ve all established by now that Angie Thomas is amazing, right?

I read 15 books this month, including the Harry Potter books which are gigantic monsters, so that’s really good for me! My average was 3.9, which is definitely skewed high because the Harry Potter books were so amazing and I knew they would be, but hey, I’m definitely not complaining!

Life

  • I reread the whole Harry Potter series. Well, I mean, I read the first one on July 31st for Harry’s birthday, but basically the whole series. I read them all in a week, as I’ve done for the past three summers.
  • I knitted myself a Ravenclaw scarf! I’ve knit on and off for like half my life now; I’m not serious, but I’ve done some easy projects like scarves, hats, and bags. After rereading the whole series I was like I should buy a scarf… and then I remembered that I knit lmao so I took three days to make myself one!
  • I visited with family, including my grandmother and cousins. It was a fun few days and I was basically off the internet for them, just hanging out at the beach and being chill.
  • I visited a National Park, went hiking and stargazing and overall just really enjoyed being out in nature!
  • I’m obsessed with Taylor Swift’s new album!! My current favorite songs are Cruel Summer, Cornelia Street, and Daylight, but the more I listen, the more I obsessed I get with the other songs and I honestly love them allll!!
  • I’m having an absolute crisis that summer is over!!! People seem to love fall but… I’m super sad because it means back to school 😦 Also there’s no fall in socal where I live the weather doesn’t cool down until November so now it’s just hot but no summer hanging out fun times rip.

  2. I had high hopes for Gunslinger Girl 😦 I was hoping for more of a Western as well! You’ve also just reminded me that I need to hurry up and reread Harry Potter. I haven’t done it in so long.

I hope September is great for you!

  3. Harry Potter should always skew the results higher ❤ What a great month of reading! Quite a few of these are on my TBR. I'm glad you've rated them so well (On the come up and we set the dark on fire). Great wrap-up 🙂

  4. I’m obsessed with the Lover Album as well. I’d have to say my favorite is probably The Man. I’ve only read the Harry Potter series once and it has been a long time so I’m not really sure which of those is my favorite. I definitely need to do a reread of them.

  5. I feel ya, September came too fast! Prisoner of Azkaban, hands down, is my favorite HP book of the series (eventhough all seven are fantastic) because I can’t get enough of Lupin and Sirius Black. Also I’m really loving Paper Rings and Lover right now but in a few days I know I’ll have a new favorite off the album to listen to on repeat lol 🙂

  7. What a great month Kay! I’m so glad you managed to read so many books and enjoyed most of them ❤ Also, thank you so much, precious for the shout-out!! And I really really feel you about summer being gone 😭 I’ve already started school and I sometimes just want it to end. But then again the weather will cool, so I guess it’s half good half bad that summer is gone. *sighs*

  8. Congrats on reading so many great books this month and all the amazing blog posts you’ve written, Kay!! ❤️ How did you read 15 books?? Please teach me!!

I honestly feel you so much that time is flying by WAY TOO FAST. It’s honestly crazy how we’re already at the start of the school year. I’m really glad that you got to spend some time with family too. I love Cruel Summer, and I think Cornelia Street, London Boy, and Paper Rings are up there in my favorites too! ✨

  9. Wow, you read so many incredible books in August, I’m impressed! Rereading Harry Potter is always a great choice 😉 And isn’t On the Come Up just incredible?? Cruel Summer is probably my favorite from Lover, though I’ve been listening to most of the album on repeat and loving it all 😀 Hope the beginning of your fall is better than you expect ❤ Thanks so much for linking my post, and happy September!

    1. You’re a ravenclaw?!! Coming from someone who hasn’t read or watched the movies but has taken the official sorting hat quiz, I’m a ravenclaw as well👀
    2. I adore Taylor’s new album!! I love it so much and am so happy that its finally out in the world! Right now my favorite songs on there are Miss Americana and The Heartbreak Prince as well as Death By A Thousand Cuts💗
But you know, they’re all my favorites😂
    3. I met the author of We Set The Dark On Fire and she was so sweet BUT I haven’t had a chance to read the book yet🙈 What did you think of the f/f romance?

  12. im scared of how fast the year is going. like the idea that we’re almost in 2020 is shocking and i want it to stop

ahhhh look at you!! it looks like you had an amazing reading month and omg the fact that you were able to reread the entire harry potter series, what a legend. i’ve been meaning to read ‘we set the dark on fire’ since it was released. it sounds so good. spectacle’s cover is absolutely gorgeous but im sorry to hear it didnt work out for you.

good luck with heading back to school. i hope youre able to balance everything without feeling overwhelmed (me) and i hope youre having a great month!! 💖

  13. I’m knitting a Slytherin hat so I can match you with that one! Looks like August was a great month for you: I must congratulate you on the Harry Potter marathon because they are big beasts. I hope that September is just as successful in reading and blogging! Have a good week x

  14. Wonderful wrap up, Kay!! I’m so glad that you had an awesome time rereading the HP books! They’re honestly some of my favorite books in the world! I need to revisit them some time soon, myself. I think Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite, with Goblet of Fire and Deathly Hallows tied in second! I’m sorry to see that Gunslinger Girl wasn’t all that you had hoped for. I’ve been wanting to read it soon, so it’s a bummer to see that it wasn’t as Western as it was labeled as being!

I want to see a photo of your Ravenclaw scarf!! I used to be into crochet and knitting, but I haven’t made anything in a while! I’m a bit sad that summer is over as well! This heat is driving me insane, since I want to unleash my closet of sweaters! Thankfully it’s been a little bit cooler this week than last though! ❤

  15. Ahh, the title of this post speaks to me because if I had to narrow it down to two things I am obsessed it, it would be Harry Potter and Taylor Swift.😂I’m so happy you had a great reread of HP this month, that’s always the best thing ever!! I just love them so much, I can’t. I also love Taylor’s album! My favorites are I Think He Knows and Cornelia Street, but I really like all the songs. Right now the one I can’t stop listening to is False God. Thank you so much for mentioning my post in this wrap-up! I hope you are having a great September so far. ❤
