Top Ten Tuesday // Best And Worst Book To Movie Adaptations

Hey loves! Although I’ve missed a couple due to being absolutely swamped with school, I’m back again for another Top Ten Tuesday! Top Ten Tuesday is a book blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is Page To Screen Freebie, so I decided to list my Top Five Book To Movie Adaptations AND Worst Five Book To Movie Adaptions.

BEST

1. Harry Potter

I mean, obviously. The magic…this series is magical.

2. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

Ahhh so cute! This movie is literally so aesthetic and perfectly captures the essence of the books.

asset 1

3. The Hunger Games

I remember how enthralled I was seeing all four Hunger Games movies in theaters at the end of middle school and beginning of high school…ahh, memories.

asset 1

4. Crazy Rich Asians

Image result for crazy rich asians

This movie was so amazing! Seriously, couldn’t stop smiling throughout the whole thing. Go Asian rep!!

asset 1

5. The Fault In Our Stars

Image result for the fault in our stars

Maybe I’m a little biased and nostalgic because this was the first movie I saw without my parents and I felt so grown up? Regardless, it was so touching.

WORST

asset 1

1. Percy Jackson

How could they possibly screw up such a great series so badly? Why is Percy like a 18 year old middle schooler? Why is everything so cringy?

asset 1

2. Divergent

Image result for divergent

This was SO BAD. I love how Allegiant Part 2 got cancelled…lmao. Way too much emphasis on romance, making Tris 100% divergent was stupid, all the characters were unremarkable…yeah, dumb.

asset 1

3. Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children

I literally watched this and read the book and I still don’t know what happened. It was just so weird and bizarre at the end, and not in a good way.

asset 1

4. The Fifth Wave

Image result for the fifth wave

The best part of this movie was making fun of how much it sucked with my friends after we watched it. Seriously, the lead guy’s eyes are so far apart it’s weird.

asset 1

5. Nerve

This was terrible.

  1. Great list! Yeah, Harry Potter definitely had to be there! I added it to my TTT but haven’t seen it much else yet, which is weird and preoccupying.

  2. Oh I actually loved Nerve! I think there were so many good themes, though it was very different than the book, so if you liked the book better I can totally see that. They did change the fundamental take away from the book; so as a fellow book-to-movie adaption critic, I can definitely see that.
And Crazy Rich Asians was absolutely amazing!! I love the aesthetic and the way they were able to fit so much of the feel of the family dynamic in; I worried a bit about this adaption because the plot in the book is so complex.

  3. I loved The Hunger Games movies! I also agree that the Harry Potter movies are just as magical as the books. But I read the books so many times that I am always a little annoyed when watching the movies… I do like them, only on some points I wish they were more like the books.

  4. To All The Boys was awesome! And yes to the Hunger Games- loved it! I did kinda like Divergent though. I know not everyone did haha! And Percy Jackson deserved so much better! They should try again lol.

  5. The Hunger Games was really good. While I did like the Divergent movies… it was because of the story, not the terrible acting or the divergence from the main story. It’s funny how Rick Riordan doesn’t even want people to mention to him that there were Percy Jackson movies. I think it gets you blocked on Twitter.

  6. I love the Harry Potter and Hunger Games films, I think they’re great adaptations of the books! To All The Boys I enjoyed though I haven’t read the book and The Fault In Our Stars I wasn’t a fan of, but I didn’t like the book much either, so that wasn’t much of a surprise, I mostly watched it because there was nothing else I could find that I wanted to watch on Netflix that night. The Percy Jackson films were terrible as were the Divergent films. Divergent I never really loved that much so that didn’t disappoint me, but I was fuming about what they did to Percy.

  7. Your picks for the top adaptations are spot on! The Hunger Games movies are SO GOOD, and I love the adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians 😀 But yeah, those bad ones are REAL BAD. I don’t think I’ll ever get over the disaster that was the Percy Jackson movie…

  8. Lovely list! To All the Boys I Loved Before movie is the sweetest and I really, really need to read Crazy Rich Asians so I can watch the movie, cause it looks stunning ❤️

  9. I somehow still haven’t watched all the Hunger Games films! I saw the first one at the cinema and loved it, but then never watched the others. I really need to watch them soon!

  10. Oh my god don’t get me started about the abomination that is the Miss Peregrine movie. I was so mad while watching it in the movie theatre just wanted to yell Rubbish at the screen. Also can we get a reboot of the Percy Jackson series.

  11. I love both of your lists you have here!☺️I definitely agree with you on Percy Jackson. I think every single fan (probably even Rick Riordan) honestly just cringed their way through that entire movie…which now that I think about it is SO sad, because the series has so much potential to be an amazing film! I hope they remake it someday. I also love the Harry Potter films so so much ❤ I've yet to see the Hunger Games but I really want to because I adore the books!

  12. YES to all the best adaptations! I adore all of those so much! Another of my favorites are Lord of the Rings and A Monster Calls! I haven’t read or seen Crazy Rich Asians yet, but I’ve heard both the book and movie are wonderful. And, I definitely agree that the Percy Jackson, Miss peregrine, and divergent adaptations need to be erased from existence 😂

  13. Agree with so much of this! I love the adaptations for to all the boys, crazy rich Asians and hunger games is a good one too. I never bothered to watch the adaptations for percy Jackson and miss peregrines- I just heard they weren’t great and the trailers looked especially bad for miss peregrine (and not like the book at all). And the divergent films weren’t great.

  14. AHHH I love this list so much, the best adaptations you listed are on point, I loved all of these SO much and thought they did such a great job with them all! I even loved Crazy Rich Asians a little more as a movie haha 🙂
