Summer 2018!! Blogging Goals :)

Hello good morning happy Sunday and today is an AMAZING FANTASTIC AWESOME HAPPY DAY because it’s finally SUMMER!!!!!!

Blue Shorts

Technically yesterday was the first day of summer for me and I couldn’t be more excited!! I’ve cleaned out my locker and bags, thrown out my books and papers, packed away my hoodies and jeans, taken out my shorts and swimsuits, and I am #READY

So with that, I’ve decided to write a blog post on all the blogging things I want to accomplish this summer because wow amazingness what is this magic I’ll actually have TIME!!!

1. Get ahead on Goodreads goal.Β This year I set my Goodreads reading challenge goal for 100 books, and I’m right on schedule with 45 down right now!! During the school year I read so much less than over the summer–just a month ago I was something like 6 books behind because of testing and finals, and now I’m all caught up πŸ™‚ I know next fall is going to be absolutely awful and I’m going to have zero time to read, so now is the time!!!

2. Write/post more reviews.Β When I first joined Goodreads/book blogging, I was super on top of my reviews, and tended to get them all written within 1-2 days of finishing a book! Now…I often leave them for multiple weeks (Right now I’m something like 3? 4? 5 reviews behind?). With reading more, I’ll definitely be able to write more reviews! I currently post reviews twice a week on my blog, and think I might up that to three times a week over the summer!

3. Change up my blogging schedule.Β Over the past few months, I’ve created a tentative blogging schedule where I post every day! It goes:

  • Monday: review
  • Tuesday: top ten tuesday
  • Wednesday: www wednesday
  • Thursday: tag
  • Friday: review
  • Saturday: tag/random
  • Sunday: discussion

I’ve been finding it a bit hard to stick to that–especially thinking up discussions weekly is hard (clearly this is not a discussion today lol)!! If I’m posting more reviews, I might replace something–maybe saturday?–with that. Also, I’m thinking about moving away from memes. I love sharing what I’m reading with WWW Wednesday, but I’ve noticed that a lot of people who participate it in don’t read the same types of books as me–young adult–and consequently, I find it hard to comment something about their reading weeks on their posts! I’m thinking I might start doing a weekly wrap up like my monthly wrap ups instead–I’m not sure!

4. Fix up my blog aesthetic.Β Okay so my blog is so generic it’s kind of a mess haha. I mean, I still use the generic WordPress sunflower as my header. And notice how all the other book bloggers have suchΒ gorgeousΒ calligraphy or watercolor or flower headers and stuff like that? Also I lowkeyhighkey hate my profile pic with the bear and the books that I took in like five minutes in my room at 11 PM the night I joined Goodreads and was meaning to change it…but never got around to it. The truth is…I really want to have a pretty blog with all that stuff, but I’m just a lazy git. So yeah, I want to make my blog really unique with a cute profile pic and header and watercolors and yeah!

side note: it’s not just my blog that i’m super lazy about haha my cover photo on my personal facebook is like three years old and I look like a fetus in it. another summer goal that has nothing to do with this blog is change my fb cover photo xD

5. Write more!Β Okay this one isn’t really related to my blog but I need to write more! I definitely used to write more when I was younger and had more time, and I also sacrificed writing for blogging in the past year, but I want to get back to writing more! In the past I’ve always written fantasy, but I have this contemporary idea and I really want to try it out??

6. Request ARCs?Β Okay, I’m going to be blunt: everyone says not to start a book blog just for the freebies but that’s part of the reason I started it. Yes, shame on me, shame on my family, shame on my cow, etc, etc. It’s definitely not the entire reason I started a book blog–my favorite part is 11/10 the community and interacting and all the awesome friends I’ve made!!!!–and like everyone said, I definitely would have quit a month or so ago when I started to burn out if I was just here for the freebies, but I don’t think it’s wrong to want freebies in addition to all the awesomeness that comes with blogging???

I’ve read that 6 months and 500 followers is the magic number, and I’ll hit 6 months in July and have 440 followers right now… Requesting ARCs seems super scary but I definitely want to just go for it this summer!!

So there were six goals I have for my blog/reading/writing/life(but not really) this summer! Any thoughts and tips on them would be much appreciated πŸ™‚ What are some of your summer goals? If you’re a student like me, when did/do you start summer? I’d love to chat in the comments below ❀

  1. I need to fix up my blog too, buuuuuut that would take time and I am also really lazy XD
My blog is all “WOOOO look at me! There will be stars and stuff!” but then you go on the website and it’s just blank…. just here is a TITLE.. that’s it… I’ve been meaning to do something about it…. but I don’t know what??
I keep putting it off like “Inspiration will come to me!” XD
    Have a good Summer!

  2. School is technically over for me, but I have finals until the 20th so I’m not free yet. And for the record, I really love your flower graphic! Also props to you for sticking to/trying to stick to that blogging schedule! For now I’m just trying to post once or twice a week and I have so much admiration for the bloggers that try to post every day. Like that’s crazy!!

  3. School’s not over for me yet until the end of June where I will be having exams :(! But when school is over, I’m going to be so happy! I’m going to just sit at home and watch tv and read lol. No big plans for me but still so exciting. Good luck with requesting ARC’s I think you can do it! I just started my blog a few weeks ago and I want to fix and organize my blog too. This was a great post and some great goals. ❀

  4. Absolutely nothing wrong for starting a blog for arcs. I started for that reason and it’s not the main reason but who cares? We like to read and in order to receive arcs we need to have some kind of platform for our thoughts and reviews. Don’t be ashamed of that πŸ™‚

  5. Speaking of blog fixing, I really need to do that as well since I moved to WordPress in February and I STILL have well over 40 pages left to go through… and it’ll just keep growing otherwise! (Plus all those broken links.)

Best of luck on your goals this summer! I started mine about a month ago and honestly haven’t accomplished much, haha. Dishonor on both of us. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

  6. Good luck with all your goals! You’re doing so well on your reading goal too. My goal was only 50 this year but since I’m one away from that, I think that I can read 100 by the end of the year!

  7. Good luck with your goals!

I usually enjoy tinkering with my blog design, but it’s true, it takes a lot of time. Also, if you are not self hosted, the options are kind of limited in terms of “automation”. I mean the fonts for example. WP has some nice ones, but i was not able to use my own fonts to upload and access them directly from post editor and it was kind of frustrating.

You are doing great on the reading!

As for ARCs, i think it’s a good way to spice up your reviews with some new books. ❀

  8. Oh I like your goals post I did this during the beginning of the year. I want to push myself more with my blog. I am happy to say I am almost at 400 subsribers which is so exciting. I also started blogging because I wanted to get arcs. I haven’t had any luck yet but maybe in the next couple months I will be able to.
