Top Ten Tuesday: I Still Haven’t Read That?

Top Ten Tuesday is a book blog meme hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is Books That Have Been On My TBR The Longest And I Still Haven’t Read. Honestly, I feel like everyone has hundreds of these. How can you not? There’s just so many books! Since I just joined Goodreads this year, I can’t actually go back and check how long the books have been on my TBR, but there are so many that I can just recall.

1. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige: This book came out four years ago, okay? I feel like I saw it right when it came out, and now it’s been four years and I still haven’t read it?

2. Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi: The problem with this one is that I read the first book years ago and don’t really remember what happened. But I wanted to read the sequel as soon as I finished the first book; why didn’t that happen?

3. Fever by Lauren DeStefano: This one has the exact same problem as #2! I don’t even remember how long it’s been since I’ve wanted to read it!

4. Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas: This one came out six years ago! How have I not read it? There is so much hype about Sarah J. Maas and I only just read my first of her books (ACOTAR). And it wasn’t even this one!

5. Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolken: This one is just shameful. I should have read as a kid (I haven’t read Hobbit either!) but I didn’t, and so here I am, practically an old lady and nowhere near reading it. I just can’t commit to reading such a large book that’ll take up so much time, you know? Not when there’s so much more to read!

6. Through the Looking Glass, And What Alice Found There by Lewis Carrol: Shameful again. I’m hanging my head in shame right now. I love Alice in Wonderland! I have no idea why I haven’t read this. But I really want to!

7. The Giver by Lois Lowry: I remember reading Number the Stars in sixth grade and really wanting to pick up The Giver. And then the movie came out and I wanted to read it even more! But…clearly I didn’t…

8. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak: I don’t even remember when I first wanted to read this book. A long, long, long time ago. Why did it never happen? What was I doing?

9. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams: Now that I’m writing this, I’m realizing that I started wanting to read all these books in elementary school or middle school. And I’m just getting sad. Yes I know that the meaning of life is 42. But I don’t know why.

10. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black: I love Holly Black. It’s part of the reason I’m so desperate to get my hands on The Cruel Prince. So why haven’t I read this? I can read another of her books while I wait for the new one. I just don’t understand myself.

  1. I am probably not the first one to say this to you but you NEED to read “The Book Thief” and TOG they are both fantastic books that will give you all the feels and totally make you cry. However, I would wait with TOG until the seventh book comes out so you can binge it all at once and you won’t have to suffer so much after the ending of EoS because that was physically painful.

  2. I can really relate to your list. I keep meaning to read The Book Thief and the Lord of the Rings series, but just never have been able to pick them up. I just read the Throne of Glass series last year. The Giver is one of my favourite books of all time though, so I would definitely recommend it!

  3. I absolutely loved The Book Thief. A great book! I also loved the Chemical Gardens trilogy. I wouldn’t say you’re missing much with Dorothy Must Die and The Coldest Girl In Coldtown.

  5. I read “The Giver” when the film came to DVD, but don’t think I adored it despite it being universally liked. That said, I feel like part of this could be because I sped-read it since I had rented the film and there was a limit to the time I could keep it.

    I’ve had the TOG books on my shelf for a while (and am not thinking they’ll end up as no-longer-interested-reads); and I more recently picked up ‘Dorothy’ because that one has made me curious for a LONG time now!! 🙂

    1. The limited time is really a struggle; I get almost all my books from the library and am concomitantly renewing and checking the due dates! I hope you enjoy Dorothy; I need to read it!

  7. I read ToG like last year? Or something. I found the first three or so pretty good. They were interesting and had an okay mystery aspect, after that it just became exhausting and there was no character development. I haven’t read Under the Never Sky series in forever but I remember loving it! Maybe I’ll have to read it again so I can actually finish the trilogy.

    1. Ooh yeah I hate it when books drag on too long without any development; it’s always a commitment to read a really long book/series! Pretty much all I remember is loving Under the Never Sky too haha. Thanks for commenting 🙂

  9. I should have added Coldest Girl to mine too it’s been waiting on me for a while. But for Throne of Glass….the final book comes out this year so when you read you will never have to wait between each book craving another because it will be complete!!! My Top Ten

    1. Yes! That’s a pro; I love binging entire series in one go instead of the TORTUROUS wait for all the books to come out; I remember reading all the Harry Potters in one go and it was great!

  10. I could never read LOTR for some reason, even though I love Fantasy *hides in shameful corner*. Perhaps it’s so ingrained in popular culture that it makes it harder to look at it with fresh eyes? I don’t know. Great list anyway! So many books I need to read as well xD

  16. this list is perfection,I want to read so many of these!!! I tried so hard to get into Tolkien but I just don’t like his writing style for some reason, and I tried to watch the films to get excited to read, but then I didn’t like the films?? BUT I so much want to read #6, 7, 8, 9 ❤

  20. If you’re thinking of getting round to Hitchhiker’s, I can highly recommend the audiobooks – the ones read by Douglas Adams himself, not the Stephen Fry or Martin Freeman ones. We used to listen to them in the car on family holidays and they instilled in me a lifelong love for the man and his work.

  23. I binged the first 5 Throne of Glass books in 6 days last year. Still have to read Tower of Dawn though! I just read The Cruel Prince and I’m obsessed with it. It was my first Holly Black book so now I feel the need to read everything else she’s ever written.

    1. You should totally read the first book! Not that I’ll be able to tell you why…I don’t remember why I liked it I just remember that I liked it but who knows, maybe if I read it now I wouldn’t like it! LOTR sounds great; I have to read it some day or another!

  26. This list is too real. The only ones I’ve read from your list are the Throne of Glass series and The Book Thief (which I didn’t like…I know it’s an unpopular opinion). I also read Fever after only vaguely remembering the previous two books, and personally it was worth it. The plot was never the best part of the series and the last one goes so much further into the history and world building which I loved.

  27. I just found Dorthy must die at a used book store! I still haven’t read it yet either. And I bought the first book in the Throne of Glass series about a year ago and have not read it haha. And I definitely recommend The Book Thief. It is AMAZING!!! And so accessible to so many age groups!

  28. Hitchhiker’s Guide, The Book Thief, and The Hobbit would be the ones I’d push on you first. Honestly (whispers) the LOTR movies are more fun than the books. But The Hobbit is great fun. I couldn’t get into Throne of Glass or Dorothy Must Die, and I tried both more than once. I read Through the Looking Glass as a kid and only remember bits and pieces of it. I’ve taught The Giver to 8th graders a few times, and I like it a lot, but I don’t know if I would if I just read it by myself as an adult.

    Interesting list, though, and I know what you mean about finding books as a young reader that you develop this sense you SHOULD read.

    1. Oh my gosh yes long series are so intimidating! It’s like, there are so many books I want to read do I really want to spend 6 books on you? But then again sometimes they can be SO worth it *cough* Harry Potter 🙂 Happy reading 🙂

  32. *waves hand* I feel you on Through the Ever Night, because that’s exactly how things happened for me as well 😅 It has been 5? years since I read the first book so it’s about time I read book two … someday, but I do still want to read it.

    I also haven’t read Throne of Glass, but I did read ACOTAR & ACOMAF 😀

    1. It’s such a struggle! The worst is when the second book of a series isn’t even out when you read the first, and then by the time it’s released you’ve completely forgotten the first! I can’t wait to read ACOMAF! Happy reading 🙂

  35. I can’t believe I didn’t think of Alice In Wonderland or the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, they have been sitting on my shelf for SO LONG! The Book Thief is my favourite read of all time so I really hope you get round to it at some point.
